Crawfish

Here is one of my favorite creatures to date, a crawfish! Depending on where you live, you may call them crayfish or even crawdads. Most of the south, including here in Texas, it's crawfish! We found these Texas-sized crawfish walking around in our barn after a few days of heavy rain. This one was VERY aggressive and was always trying to pinch me! She was successful in getting me a time or two, and boy does it hurt! In the one picture, you can see she was pinching my finger. We later realized the aggression likely came from the the fact that she had tons of her baby crawfish tucked up under her tail that she was protecting (zoom in and you'll see them).

Crawfish seem to eat anything and everything. We fed her worms, fish, and shrimp and she ate it all. In the wild, they also eat plants. One of the cool facts I learned, is that a crawfish walks forward and swims backward. They have four legs used to swim and four legs used to walk!
