Yellow Garden Spider

The next featured creature is a Yellow Garden Spider! I want to remind you, everything is bigger in Texas, just like this spider, but these can be found in all of the lower 48 states!

I found this spider under the handrail on our porch. When the sun is shinning, you can really see the huge circular web.

Most spiders have two claws on each foot. The Yellow Garden Spider is known as an orb weaver, which means instead of two claws they have three. Their extra claw helps them spin VERY intricate webs.

The Yellow Garden Spider does produce venom, but thankfully the venom is harmless to humans! It uses this venom to immobilize any insects that fly into its web. This includes, flies, bees, grasshoppers or anything else it can sink its fangs into.
